CBRE Hosts Family Carnival

CBRE volunteers ready to start the carnival!

CBRE hosted its 2nd Annual Family Fun Carnival on April 20 for 250 children and their families ready to enjoy activities and time together.  The event featured carnival games (a dunk tank, basketball shoot out, muscle man, soccer fever), piñatas, face painting and more.  Children received tickets at each game for participating and were able to turn them in for prizes at the end of the day.  Families snacked on gourmet ice cream from Inside the Scoops, drinks and pastries from Starbucks as well as pizza, juice, water and chips provided by CBRE.  Our appreciation and thanks to Nichol McVicker, Karla Delfosse and Tiffany Linski for organizing and planning this wonderful event again this year and to all of the CBRE volunteers and sponsors who helped to make our families feel special!

Thank You Angell Foundation!

Three Cheers to The Angell Foundation for approving a $50,000 grant in support of the Child Development Center at Magnolia Place which includes the preschool, family enrichment program and family enrichment community program.  Hundreds of children and parents benefit each year from these programs that work to achieve four goals known to strengthen families — nurturing parenting, school readiness, health and well-being and economic stability.

Spring Baby Shower Celebrates Moms

101The Spring Baby Shower Event recently held at Anaheim-Harbor Family Resource Center gave 32 families the opportunity to ask questions about their newborns, learn about baby-related topics such as nutrition and participate in fun activities. The day was a big success with the mothers feeling empowered to implement the strategies they learned at home.

Many thanks to Deloitte, Disneyland Resort, Hike It Up, QBE and Keven Yue for their generous donations and to the wonderful team of Disney VoluntEARS for their time and dedication to helping families in our community. Final thanks to these thoughtful ladies who purchased and beautifully wrapped items for the baby baskets:  Annette Banks, Betsy Bazdarich, Paige Hulsey, Sarah Keh, Toni Lebel, Jo Loomis, Kathy Morgan, Ellen Multari and Michele Prince.

Vegas Fun for Vice Chairmen

103

The 24th Annual Vice Chairmen’s Event held on May 1 & 2 in Las Vegas brought together a generous group of golfers who raised big bucks for Children’s Bureau.  This exclusive golf outing included private jet transportation, golf at legendary Cascata and Shadow Creek, luxury hotel accommodations at Bellagio, fine dining and camaraderie.  Kudos to Event Chair Matt Pauley (pictured second from the left) for planning a first-class event and to all of the participants for their support of our child abuse prevention work.

Big Sunday’s Book Fair

104Big Sunday’s 3rd Annual Book Fair held on May 4 & 5 brought together  people of all ages eager to volunteer their time at Children’s Bureau. More than 8,000 books were sorted and displayed so that 400 children and parents could easily peruse and take what interested them. Activities included decorating book bags, making bookmarks, paper mache flower pots, Mother’s Day cards as well as face painting, Families were also treated to performances by Huichilopoztli, an Aztec dance group.  Children’s Bureau is grateful to Big Sunday for partnering with us and to Hope Wintner and Lisa Cook for their extraordinary leadership and guidance in organizing this big volunteer and family event!
