More than 600 kids and parents attended The Angelic Auxiliary’s 11th Annual Carnival at the Pier on March 10 at Pacific Park on Santa Monica Pier. The sunny, action-packed day featured unlimited amusement park rides, carnival games and prizes, face painting, Push2Start Photo Booth, hip-hop dance performances by Groovaholix Dance Company along with Magician Mark Paskell and an exciting raffle drawing. This popular family event, chaired by Deepthi Brown, Akieva Jacobs, Jackie Hassett and Carleen Riley, raised over $106,000 for Children’s Bureau’s child abuse prevention programs.  Our thanks to all of the Angelics, sponsors and families who contributed to the day’s success!

Banamex Hosts Family Financial Workshop

Banamex USA recently hosted a one-day financial education workshop for parents and children.  Banamex employees led parents in a learning and Q&A session while children participated in a variety of activities such as counting games, reading time, how to use a piggy bank and pretend shopping.

“The adults were engaged and asked several questions about their financial service options and credit. A majority of them did not have a banking relationship and were surprised when they realized how much of their money was being spent at check cashing establishments. Overall, they were able to recognize the benefits of having a bank account. The children truly enjoyed the various activities that focused on the concept of money and how to spend and save it. It was a wonderful learning experience for all of us and our hope is to reach more families with similar workshops in the near future,” said Cynthia Mendoza, V.P. – Community Relations at Banamex.

Learning about Baby

Parenting can be a rewarding yet often overwhelming experience, especially for first-time moms and dads.  Children’s Bureau’s NuParent program helps thousands of parents annually across California learn child-rearing skills and bonding activities while also providing a support forum for parents to share their experiences.
“Parents really enjoy the NuParent program and tell us they feel closer to their babies. It is exciting for me to see how parents change — they are more relaxed and can be silly with their babies.  NuParent impacts my parents in a positive way and I look forward to facilitating many future sessions,” said Cynthia Leyva, Parent Services Coordinator at Grail Family Services in San Jose, CA. For more information about NuParent, visit nuparent.org.
