Celebrities Who Have Adopted
Adopting is for all kinds of families, single parents, young couples, couples that have trouble conceiving and families who just have extra love to share. We’ve put together a list of some famous adoptive parents you may recognize. We see these celebrities who have adopted as ambassadors for domestic and foreign child adoption because they believe that every child is deserving of a loving family, no matter their cultural background or country of origin.
1. Sandra Bullock
In 2010, Sandra was coming out of a very public divorce with reality TV biker Jesse James. But, she did not let that deter her from creating a loving family. Where there is love, there can always be a family. She started the adoption process before her divorce, and adopted Louis, born in Louisiana, early in 2010.
He was her rock during the public ordeal. It is in stressful times like these that family love is most important, even if those giving and receiving the love are too young to understand the situation. Way to go Sandra! You are one of our favorite celebrities who have adopted.
2. Katherine Heigl and Josh Kelley
Katherine and Josh are famous adoptive parents with two adopted children, Naleigh from South Korea in 2009, and Adalaide Marie Hope from Louisiana in 2012. The couple had been involved in the adopting process for a while before they were able to adopt Naleigh, but Adalaide came as a last-minute pleasant surprise for the family. Katherine and Josh had about a month to prepare for the new baby, not to mention Naleigh! They say Naleigh is very excited to be a big sister.
3. Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness
Hugh and Deborra had been trying for years to have biological children, but they did not have any success. Originally, the couple had planned to both adopt and have biological children of their own, but changed their minds once they saw the need for adoption. In an interview, Hugh said, “When we found out about adoption, the biggest need was in the mixed race. That’s where the need was. So it just felt like, ‘well, that’s what we’ll do.’ I didn’t think it took much more thought than that.”
4. Steven Spielberg
Steven Spielberg has seven children in his family, both biological and adopted. He and Kate Capshaw welcomed Theo into their family when they married, and Spielberg later also adopted Mikaela Spielberg. They are a shining example of famous adoptive parents who have gone above and beyond.
Aside from making amazing movies, he has dedicated his life to helping children all over the world receive the love, care, and health they deserve with the Starlight Children’s Foundation. This organization partners with experts to improve the life and health of kids and families around the world.
