How to Stop Child Abuse & Help Prevent Child Abuse | Children's Bureau

Join Build Hope

We invite you to help ensure that every child in the Children’s Bureau family is resilient in the face of adversity. There are many obstacles to success for vulnerable children in our community—poverty, maltreatment, neglect, inadequate education, food and housing insecurity, substance abuse, violent environments, and limited access to resources and supportive networks. We believe that helping children thrive in strong families and communities is a public concern. There are lots of ways you can help us protect children. Show that you care and BUILD HOPE.

“I have learned so much from Children’s Bureau. I am grateful to tell others about how this organization can help parents and their children.”

Children’s Bureau is dedicated to providing children with a safe environment where they can thrive.  Our mission is protecting children through prevention, treatment, and advocacy.

Prevention

Child abuse and neglect affects over 1 million children every year and costs our nation $220 million every day. This number will only continue to rise as time goes on but there is hope. Children’s Bureau remained a trusted leader, partner, and collaborator in turning around this unnecessary suffering through primary prevention. Children’s Bureau is the largest investor in child abuse prevention in the country.

Treatment

We respond to the immediate needs of a child in danger through our family foster care and adoption program, matching hundreds of children each year with loving, nurturing families. We also provide mental health therapy and other related services to thousands of children and their families who have experienced abuse or are at risk of abuse.

Advocacy

Our advocacy efforts focus on promoting investment in the early years. Nationally, we’re working to promote replication of the Magnolia Community Initiative framework via the Belong Campaign aimed at inviting other communities to create their own Belong Community. New replication communities will be supported by the Belong Institute, a training and advocacy center founded by Children’s Bureau.
