Sosimo Avila Jr aka “Sosi” is married to his beautiful wife, Allison, and fathers his sweet son, Everett. He is currently serving families by providing guidance and counsel regarding the right type of home mortgage in light of their needs. Sosi was previously an ordained Pastor overseeing ministries internationally and domestically for five years. He has always had a heart to ensure people were taken care of and given the aid they deserve. YPCB was attractive to him given the help they provide to families in need. He has stated, “Helping families stay together when they should is imperative, and seeing families flourish in life is an aim that I know YPCB and myself have completely in common. I am thankful to be aligned with such a great organization.”

Lawrence Telles is a Sales Executive at First American Title in Santa Ana. Lawrence became involved with YPCB because he grew up in Santa Ana himself, so helping these families and children in need is something close to his heart. He grew up in communities that had many issues the Children’s Bureau helps prevent and he wanted to give back to his community.
Brett Struiksma

Brett Struiksma is a Benefits Consultant with HUB International, developing and overseeing employee benefit programs for various organizations. Brett has noticed over the years the impact communities can have on families to raise children. Children’s Bureau focus is right at the core of the family fabric and to have the ability to impact the community and create stronger families made joining Children’s Bureau a no brainer. He has grown up locally and wants to provide positive opportunities to all the families and kids to grow and be encouraged about what life has to bring.
Melanie Scotto

Melanie Scotto, LIUNA Local 777

Director of Volunteer Events

Melanie is a Labor and Employment attorney with LIUNA Local 777, which is a public sector union in Southern California and Phoenix. Melanie is a native New Yorker and moved to California 5 years ago to pursue her career and finally get some sunshine. She has always enjoyed working with children in a mentorship capacity, so becoming a part of the Young Professional Board seemed like the perfect way to help children in a different capacity. She’s excited to be the newest member of the board and have the opportunity to work with the young professionals!

Allison is a Senior Project Manager at KWALL, a web development agency that specializes in Higher Education. At KWALL, Allison manages multiple web projects and strives to meet objectives and accomplish goals with timeliness, accuracy and creativity. As an Orange County native, she is passionate about being involved in her community and making a difference while making meaningful connections with likeminded individuals.

Leon is an Associate at RealtyMogul, a crowdfunding real estate investment company. At RealtyMogul, Leon assists in the sourcing and underwriting of commercial real estate investments. Leon is passionate about making a positive impact in the community, especially the underserved youth. He believes developing our youth is accretive and every youth deserves an equal opportunity and a quality education. Leon hopes to support Children’s Bureau’s mission and grow YPCB’s impact while developing his leadership skills. In his spare time, Leon likes to read, socialize, and explore.
Kasey Hemphill

Kasey Hemphill, Jones Day

Vice President

 

Kasey Hemphill is an Associate in the Business and Tort Litigation (BaTL) practice group at Jones Day. Kasey’s practice includes fact investigation, motion drafting, and cross-office coordination to represent clients in contract and tort disputes. She is a Seattle native, and comes from a large family, with several siblings and many nieces and nephews. Her first “job” – paid in hugs – was in elementary school as Kasey pretended to be a teacher, and practiced literacy and language skills with her younger sister. Eventually, Kasey became a Head Start teacher.

Kasey looks forward to using her legal career to advocate zealously for corporate and pro bono clients, and also for the communities in which she lives. In her spare time, Kasey enjoys meal prepping, listening to the Hamilton soundtracks (original and mixtape), and nail art.

Karalyn Ahmanson

Karalyn Ahmanson (Kara) is a student in Nonprofit Management who wants to have a career in Nonprofits. She is passionate about having a career in a field where every day is directly serving others and figuring out their needs. After visiting the Children’s Bureau facilities, she realized this is perfect opportunity to create a safer learning environment for children as well as their families and communities.

Mei Zhang

Mei Zhang, Starpoint Properties

Director, Engagement

Mei Zhang is an acquisitions analyst at StarPoint Properties, responsible for reviewing new multifamily opportunities and assisting with debt and equity processes to obtain financing for existing and pending assets. She was introduced to Children’s Bureau through a friend and after her first volunteer event at the Magnolia headquarters, she became immediately hooked on their mission to drive impact in their community. By joining the YPCB board, she hopes to further serve the surrounding area by supporting Children’s Bureau in their vision of children thriving as a result of strong families and strong communities.

David Bancroft

David Bancroft, Kozberg & Bodell LLP

David Bancroft is an associate attorney in civil litigation at Kozberg & Bodell LLP. He is also of counsel for the patent law firm M.J. Ram & Associates. David had been wanting to give back to his community in a lasting and significant way and found that opportunity with the YPCB. David is excited to continue with the YPCB as the Director of Volunteer Events and help equip young professionals to effectively build relationships and serve children and families in Los Angeles.
Gunnar Kohl

Gunnar Kohl is currently a Tenant Advisor at CBRE in the Advisory and Transaction Services Group. Born and raised in LA, Gunnar joined YPCB to be part of a group that contributes time and effort to improving children’s lives and makes a positive impact on his hometown. He is excited to take on a leadership position at an organization that he has been involved with for over a year and join a new team dedicated to the mission of the Children’s Bureau.
 

Jesse Krupski

Jesse Krupski is a senior manager at EY working with financial services companies. Jesse recently relocated from New York City to Los Angeles and was looking to making a meaningful impact in his new community when he was introduced to the Children’s Bureau. As a new father, the Children’s Bureau’s mission and its importance resonated. Jesse is looking forward to joining the YPCB leadership and improving the lives of children and families in Los Angeles.
Blake Pittman

Blake Pittman, Avison Young

Director, Communications

Blake Pittman is an Associate at the Avison Young Downtown Los Angeles office, focusing on both tenant and landlord representation. She works with national law firms, tech companies, non-profits, and financial services globally. She joined YPCB to meet young professionals interested in making a positive impact on the children of Southern California, and hopes to spend time volunteering and fundraising.
