CLOSING THE ACHIEVEMENT GAP
ONE BOOK AT A TIME

Children’s Bureau has a new partner that is making a big difference in the lives of our families — The Book Foundation. This wonderful organization works to close the achievement gap with a holistic approach to literacy that places books directly in the hands and homes of underserved children and families. In January, they restocked the library with hundreds of new books and installed a new cataloguing system that makes it easier for families to use the library. The Book Foundation will continue to work with our library throughout the year, but their support doesn’t stop there. On March 2nd, they helped us celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday and Read Across America Week with a literacy-focused, Seuss extravaganza. Over 60 children and their parents had the opportunity to bond and develop a love of reading while creating literacy-themed crafts. The foundation generously donated brand new Dr. Seuss books for the attendees and provided a professional reader who put on an interactive storytime that encouraged children to engage with books. You can learn more about The Book Foundation at www.thebookfoundation.org.
