FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The League for Children Raises Funds for new Children's Bureau Preschool
LOS ANGELES, CA - September 21, 2008

(Los Angeles, CA) After six very successful years of 'Polo in the Park,' The League for Children, a fundraising auxiliary for Children's Bureau, decided to leave the horses at the stable and celebrate with the swans! This year's fundraising event, Soiree with the Swans, held on Sunday, September 21, 2008 at the Hotel Bel-Air was a huge success!

Master of Ceremonies Art Linkletter entertained 240 guests with his timeless jokes and lighthearted interview with George W. Fenimore, a longtime volunteer leader and supporter of Children's Bureau and this year's event honoree. Those who attended the sunny afternoon event enjoyed cocktails, a beautiful garden luncheon, a silent auction with over 50 items and live jazz music by Roger Neumann and his ensemble. A palm reader and magician also wandered the crowd and dazzled guests with their extraordinary skills. Mrs. Valerie Hoffman was the grand raffle prize winner of a 2008 Mini Cooper Convertible. Elise Pasetta (along with husband Marty) and Marie Humphreys served as co-chairs for the event. Patron Chair was Barbara Knight and this year's League for Children President is Gretchen Ponty Smith.

Funds raised at Soiree with the Swans will go towards the preschool at Children's Bureau's new Magnolia Place Family Center, located south west of Downtown Los Angeles. Kindergarten readiness is a primary goal of the new Center and the preschool will provide the opportunity to prepare hundreds of children each year to enter school with the skills and knowledge they need to be successful.

For the past 22 years, The League for Children has raised over $2.8 million in charitable funds to help benefit Children's Bureau, a 104-year-old nonprofit leader in the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect. More than 14,000 children and their families are served each year throughout Southern California with programs that include foster care and adoption, parenting classes, family resource centers, mental health counseling, support groups and more.
