FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Magnolia Place Family Center's 1st Annual Toy Boutique LOS ANGELES, CA - December 13, 2008
On December 13, 2008, Children's Bureau's Magnolia Place Family Center hosted its First Annual Toy Boutique. The boutique, organized by volunteer leaders Melanie Boyd, Stephanie Campbell, Liza-Mae Carlin and Carrie Tilton, gave parents in the West Adams community of Los Angeles the opportunity to shop and select their own gifts for their children from an assortment of more than 500 toys. One mother mentioned that the toy boutique allowed her to direct scarce family resources to purchasing clothing instead of toys during the holidays. "You don't know the help that you are providing," she stated. Participating families were preselected from Children's Bureau's database, based on need, number of children and family income. Children's Bureau's Angelic Auxiliary, Deloitte LLP, IHOP, Lockton Insurance Brokers, Inc. and Staples Center Foundation were among the organizations that held toy drives to benefit the toy boutique. With 110 families served and more than 400 toys distributed, the Magnolia Place Toy Boutique was a huge success!
For over 100 years, Children's Bureau has been a nonprofit leader in the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect. More than 14,000 children and families are helped each year throughout Southern California with services that include foster care, adoption, school readiness, parenting classes, support groups, mental health counseling and more.
