Foster Care and Adoption
Children should have a safe place they can call home, yet in Los Angeles County alone the number of abused children placed in foster care has increased by 86 percent over the last decade. Children's Bureau's highly regarded foster care and adoption program provides hundreds of these little ones a safe, nurturing place to live. Our foster/adoptive parents work magic giving a troubled child the chance to trust, love and feel confident about their place in the world.

Children's Bureau also provides Adoption Promotion and Support Services which works to increase permanency for Los Angeles County children. Adoption from foster care is promoted when it is in the best interest of the child. Foster care and adoption families are provided with additional help through therapy, mentoring and support groups.

An important element in maintaining a quality foster care program is evaluating the progress our families make and determining what we can do better. We're proud to report that foster children continue to demonstrate significant cognitive and academic progress while placed in our foster care program over periods of time as short as six months.
