Foster Care and Adoption

Children should have a safe place they can call home, yet in Los Angeles County alone the number of abused children placed in foster care has increased by 86 percent over the last decade. Children's Bureau's highly regarded foster care and adoption program provides hundreds of these little ones a safe, nurturing place to live. Our foster/adoptive parents work magic giving a troubled child the chance to trust, love and feel confident about their place in the world.

An important element in maintaining a quality foster care program is evaluating the progress our families make and determining what we can do better. We're proud to report the dramatic results of a recent year-long study in the behavioral, cognitive, physical and academic progress of youngsters in our foster care program, which was recently published by the Child Welfare League of America.

The report is now being used as a resource guide by the Los Angeles County Department of Children & Family Services as well as other private foster family agencies on how children can heal, grow and thrive when placed in stable foster homes.
Take a look at the research results.
